About the Authors

• Dr. Ashok Goel - Ashok K. Goel is a Professor of Computer Science and Human-Centered Computing in the School of Interactive Computing at Georgia Institute of Technology, and the Chief Scientist with Georgia Tech’s Center for 21st Century Universities. For almost forty years, he has conducted research into cognitive systems at the intersection of artificial intelligence and cognitive science with a focus on computational design and creativity. For almost two decades, much of his research has increasingly focused on AI in education and education in AI. He is a Fellow of AAAI and the Cognitive Science Society, an Editor Emeritus of AAAI’s AI Magazine, and a recipient of AAAI’s Outstanding AI Educator Award as well as the University of System of Georgia’s Scholarship of Learning and Teaching Award. Ashok is the PI and Executive Director of National AI Institute for Adult Learning and Online Education (aialoe.org) sponsored by the United States National Science Foundation.
• Dr. David Joyner - David Joyner is Associate Dean of Off-Campus & Special Initiatives and Executive Director of Online Education & OMSCS in Georgia Tech's College of Computing, where he also holds the Zvi Galil PEACE Chair. His research focuses on online education and learning at scale, especially as they intersect with for-credit offerings at the graduate and undergraduate levels. His emphasis is on designing learning experiences that leverage the opportunities of online learning to compensate for the loss of synchronous collocated class time. This includes leveraging artificial intelligence for student support and assignment evaluation, facilitating student communities in large online classes, and investigating strategies for maintainable and interactive presentation of online instructional material. He is also Chair of the Steering Committee for the ACM Learning @ Scale conference, as well as the General Chair for the 2019, 2020, and 2024 conferences. Joyner has received several awards for his work in teaching online, including the 2023 Georgia Tech Outstanding Professional Education Award, the 2022 College of Computing Outstanding Faculty Leadership Award, the 2019 USG Regents' Teaching Excellence Award for Online Teaching, the 2018 Georgia Tech Center for Teaching & Learning Curriculum Innovation Award, and the 2016 Georgia Tech College of Computing Lockheed Excellence in Teaching Award. He was also named to the Georgia Tech Alumni Association's 40 Under 40 in 2022.
• Steven Bryant, MSc, MBA - Steven Bryant is a seasoned leader, educator, and researcher with over three decades of experience in technology and nearly a decade focused on Artificial Intelligence, machine learning, and Human-AI collaboration. At Georgia Tech, Steven serves as an Instructional Associate in the College of Computing, mentoring and teaching thousands of students annually. As a prolific author, his works guide both executive leaders and the general public through the AI revolution. He is the author of “AI: A Human Reflection: Our Image, Our Future, Our Choice”, a human-centric guide to navigating AI's societal impact by replacing anxiety with agency, and co-author of “The Agentic Enterprise: A Leader's Guide to Navigating the AI Revolution”, a strategic blueprint for C-suite decision-makers. His forthcoming book, “Trusted AI by Design”, establishes a comprehensive methodology for leaders to enable the confident scaling of AI by embedding principles of transparency, accountability, and fairness. As a published researcher, Steven’s work includes a paper featured in Springer Nature’s Discover Artificial Intelligence journal as part of the "Large Language Models and AI-Generated Content" Collection. Steven’s expertise bridges industry and academia, driving the transformative potential of AI across science, education, and business by focusing on building trustworthy systems and fostering effective human-AI collaboration.
